Eons ago, back when the Dead Sea was not even a tiny bit
sick, I loved oil painting -- usually tropical scenes on canvas which
were sold at resorts in the Caribbean.
Fast forward a couple of decades (okay, more, but like Jack Benny I'm
not counting anymore) and I ran across a bag of seashells... these are
beauties we'd collected during our travels while beachcombing and diving
along the eastern seaboard and down island.
It seemed natural to pick up a paintbrush and see what I
could do. The first few were snapped up by friends and relatives who
raided my Christmas tree where I had tucked them among the branches as
ornaments. Then Auntie
came to visit and declared she "needed" more for her dollhouses. Thus
inspired (to tell the truth, nothing can stop me now -- I'm having way
too much fun!) I've found it necessary to share what could easily overfun the house. After experimenting with the
admittedly much faster-to-complete acrylics and watercolor mediums I
came to realize the permanence of oil is what I desired. Though I cannot
yet be mistaken for Paul Rubens or Michelangelo, it pleases me to know
that oil paintings last centuries. I like that, and hope you and your
heirs will too. Happy Collecting! |
